A temporary residence permit for the purpose of studies shall be granted by the respective Foreign Police unit to a third-country foreigner who is

  1. A full-time student at secondary school abroad and younger than 20 years of age on the date of the residence permit application (or 23 years of age on the date of the residence permit application for students of a follow up studies /further education, specialised professional studies or higher studies)
  2. A university student, or
  3. Attending a language or professional preparatory course organised and taught by a Slovak university with the aim to continue with studies at university

The Foreign Police unit shall grant temporary residence for the purpose of studies for the expected period of the studies but not longer than for 6 years.

A foreigner granted temporary residence for the purpose of studies may run a business, during his/her temporary stay.

 

A special form in the Slovak language shall be filled in and submitted personally by the applicant applying for a residence permit for the purpose of studies with the below documents to be attached therein:

  • A valid passport
  • Two colour photographs (3 x 3.5 cm in size)
  • A certificate from the respective school confirming that the foreigner from the third country was enrolled for studies
  • A criminal record extract from the foreigner´s home country as well as from countries where he/she stayed longer than 90 days for 6 successive months in the last 3 years
  • Accommodation in Slovakia, e.g.
    • An affidavit declaring that the foreigner owns property in Slovakia, or
    • A notarised rent contract proving the foreigner has rented property, including the respective title deed
    • A notarised affidavit from the property owner that he/she will provide accommodation to the foreigner, including the respective title deed
    • A statement from an accommodation facility (hotel, lodging house) confirming that accommodation will be provided to the foreigner there
  • Document proving the foreigner has sufficient funds to cover his/her stay: financial and material coverage during his/her stay in Slovakia shall be proved with
    • a bank account statement opened in the name of the third-country foreigner
    • a statement proving the student was granted scholarship
    • a statement of a statutory body of a legal entity confirming that funds are secured for the student´s stay or an affidavit of an individual confirming that he/she will provide financial coverage to a third-country foreigner supported by a personal account statement
