A permanent residence permit allows the third-country foreigner to stay, travel abroad and arrive again to Slovakia within the period of time he/she was granted the residence permit by the respective police unit.

A permanent residence permit shall mean

  1. a permanent residence permit for five years
  2. a permanent residence permit for an unlimited period of time
  3. the stay of the third-country foreigner who was granted a long-term stay in the EU

A permanent residence permit for five years may be granted for example to

  • a foreigner from a third-country who is a spouse to a Slovak citizen or his/her dependant family member in the direct line (e.g. a child)
  • a minor child of a third-country foreigner who was granted a permanent residence permit for five years
  • a third-country foreigner if that is in the interests of the Slovak Republic

A special form in the Slovak language shall be filled in and submitted personally by the applicant applying for a permanent residence permit for five years with the below documents to be attached therein:

  • A valid passport
  • Two colour photographs (3 x 3.5 cm in size)
  • A certificate issued by Registry Office (Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate of a child)
  • An affidavit of the legal representative of a child that he/she is single
  • A document proving the foreigner has sufficient funds to cover his/her stay: an affidavit of the guarantor that he/she will provide financial and material coverage during his/her stay in Slovakia and any of the following documents
    • An employment contract
    • A statement issued by the employer confirming the amount of salary
    • A bank account statement opened in the name of the third-country foreigner
  • Accommodation in Slovakia, e.g.
    • An affidavit declaring that the foreigner owns property in Slovakia, or
    • A notarised rent contract proving the foreigner has rented property, including the respective title deed
    • A notarised affidavit from the property owner that he/she will provide accommodation to the foreigner, including the respective title deed
    • A statement from an accommodation facility (hotel, lodging house) confirming that accommodation will be provided to the foreigner there
